Adirondack Holiday Lodge

Frequently Asked Questions

With the exception of Death and Taxes nothing is assured.  The Guidelines below are not written in stone. If you need us to relax a policy please ask.  We truly do appreciate our patrons and we will do what we can to make your stay pleasant and memorable.  One thing that does make flexibility easier though is to make your special requests at the time of the reservation.  Like any business ours requires planning so that each guest feels at home with us.  If a last minute request will effect staff or otherwise compromise our ability to tend to the needs of all our guests we will likely have to say no.  We hope you understand.

A lodge is different from a Hotel or Motel.  It falls between an Inn and a modern Bed and Breakfast.  Hotels and Motels most know from their travels.  The Holiday Inn or the Ramada would be good examples of a typical Hotel.  Red Roof,  Motel 6, Econo-Lodge are good motel examples.  Lodges, Inns, and the more modern B&B's have their roots in the old English countryside.  At an Inn a weary traveler would stop along the roadside expecting a basic meal and a bed for the night. Contrastingly staying at a Lodge the traveler would have communicated with the Lodge owner in advance and made whatever arrangement suited him.  Often a Lodge stay was a holiday that may have included a fox hunt, bird hunting, fishing, a polo match or some other sporting activity.   A lodge stay generally was expected to be more rustic than ones normal digs.  A lodge stay wasn't just a place to eat and sleep,  it was and event; an experience. You became friends with the lodge owner, the lodge was his home and you were his house guest.  More often than not you returned to the Lodge time and time again to enjoy the spoils of the season.  We are a Lodge,  we don't pretend to be or even want to be a Hotel or Motel.  We are not an Inn, we don't consider you just our overnight guest never to be seen again.  The traveler that we hope to attract isn't looking for sheetrock white walls,  antiseptic conditions and deadbolt locks.  Our guests are adventurers, less concerned with their room than with what outdoor experience awaits.  We hope they come to the Adirondacks to experience to the very marrow of what we can offer.  The Adirondack Mountains are a special place. There is little to compare in the United States or the world for that matter.  The Adirondack Holiday Lodge is the original Holiday Inn.   A long ago lawsuit proved that and what is now the Crowne Plaza in Lake Placid was the award for the Lussi Family.  Our Lodge has been in continuous operations since the 1930's.  Each owner has put his stamp on the place.  We are no different.  What has been an enduring concept though is guest service.  Our rooms are comfortable and clean,  we boast the only facility in Wilmington with various public rooms for our guests to enjoy and relax in.  We have 3 wood burning fireplaces,  a hot tub and sauna room, two guest lounges, a panoramic breakfast area, a game room, a small library selection, an outdoor tented area,  outdoor picnic areas with grills,  horseshoes and sand volley ball, a full banquet facility and much more. This year we expect to add a greenhouse and more retail areas to our Lodge. This year too we hope to add your name to our guest list.

We do not offer discounts.  We believe in value.  We keep our rates reasonable and don't play games with holiday rates or weekend rates or minimum stay requirements.  Our Apartment is the only unit that requires a two day stay just because of the size and time required to reset it.   Last year when economic conditions took a downturn we lowered our rates across the board in hopes that visitors would find our area affordable.  With what we and our Lodge offers to our guests we think that we are the best deal in town. We are still not the least expense place in town.  If price is your only factor I believe that there remain less expensive options.  We balance quality with price  We also encourage our guests to further save and bring in food if they like and use one or our dining areas to enjoy their meal with family and friends,  BYOB and wine,  sit in front of the fire and relax.  We offer guests who travel in groups the use of the Lobby area often into the wee hours so they may visit and relax together.  We don't think we are just renting you a room,  we are hoping to provide you a happy memory as wel

Our cancellation policy is 48 hours.  For example: a reservation for a Friday can be canceled without penalty before 2 p.m. on Wednesday.  After this we reserve the right to charge up to one nights stay.  As a note, we rarely enforce this policy with the exceptions of times where a cancellation actually results in a lost potential rental.  Again, for example:  if the Lodge is fully reserved, your room is not available to rent and likely would have been, but when the lodge is not fully booked anyone who wished to stay with us had that opportunity.   We see no valid business reason to alienate a potential future guest.  We understand that there are times that plans need to be changed at the last minute,  please just call us as early as you can so we can avoid warming up your room in the winter or cooling it off in the summer.  We like to save a little energy when we can it is a hefty monthly bill.

No Show Policy.   We absolutely charge you for one night.   We almost always enforce this policy.

Check In Time.  2 p.m.   We understand most of our guests come from some distance so provided that your room is ready, an earlier arrival is rarely a problem.  Anything that borders on the cusp of creating a 2 day rental please call and we will work something out.  Our industry standard is 3pm check-in and 11am check out.  To ask for a 6 a.m.-10 a.m. check in coupled with a 2 p.m.-4 p.m. check out is fine, we just need to arrive at a fair price.

Late Arrival Check In.  We do not maintain a 24 hour front desk.  Our normal Lobby Hours are from M-TH 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.  Friday-Saturday 7 a.m to 9 p.m.  Sunday 7 a.m to 1 pm.  We adjust these hours as the needs of the guests require.  Those that anticipate checking in when the Lobby is not open have two options.  We can email room directions and leave the key in the room and the room open or we can fasten the key to the Lobby  Door with room directions.  We usually work this out with you at the time of your reservation.  We use option 2 for all guests that have not arrived by the time we lock up the lobby.

Check Out Time-Noon   Again this is not set in stone but remember that the housekeeping staff works during the day,  by 2 pm most days they are finished working.  We will work with you to allow you to leave items at the lodge if need be but we do have to make your room available to housekeeping to remove the towels, bedding and trash by noon so that they can finish their laundry duties.

Pets    We are a pet friendly Lodge...to a point.  Mostly we find to travelers pets mean dogs.  We also recognize that to certain dog owners that the dogs are like family.  Please just be aware that not all people share that view.  To some, a dog is a dog and also to some a dog is a nuisance.  Some people are even frightened by dogs.  Please respect the rights of others.  Not everyone loves your dog like you do. We allow dogs in most rooms.  Due to potential guest allergies dogs are not allowed in our common areas or Lobby.  We charge a refundable $50 pet deposit, (separate transaction refunded within 24 hours after check out) you are responsible for the complete cost of any damage caused by your pet. We also expect that you will clean up your own dog poopy and deposit it in the dumpster. If our staff has to do poopy clean up we will charge it to the pet deposit.   Under NO circumstances is your dog allowed to be left in the room, left in your car (except when the owner is on the property) or tied up on the property unattended.  Your dog will be on a leash and under control AT ALL TIMES while not in your room.  We have pet sitters available at $10/hour.  Please make us aware of your pet and make any necessary arrangements at the time of your reservation.  Please do not just show up with a dog,  your room may not be dogable thus we may have to ask that you stay elsewhere.  We also reserve the right to ask you to leave if your pet is disruptive to the peace and enjoyment of our other guests.  We may refund your room charge if we must do this.
